What is a GR12 titanium tube?
Titanium grade 12 Pipes are preferred because they have high strength, are resistant to crevice corrosion, have good weldability, and are easy to work with. Titanium grade 12 Pipes are also used because of their excellent resistance to the erosive and corrosive action of higher-temperature acid steam. This Titanium grade pipe like Titanium Grade 12 Sheets, Titanium Grade 12 Bars, etc., is also resistant to corrosion fatigue and stress corrosion cracking.
About Titanium Grade 12 Pipe and Tube
Primarily the titanium grade is alloyed with several additions like molybdenum, aluminum, zirconium, nickel, vanadium, ruthenium, and chromium. This is for improving and combining several features like conductivity, corrosion resistance, creep, microstructure, heat resistance, ductility, etc. Mostly those are added to titanium grade 12 pipes to obtain significant improvement regarding corrosion resistance in a slightly reducing environment to avoid problems that might cause because of insufficient conditions for forming protective oxide film onto metallic surfaces.
The corrosion characteristic of titanium is because of the formation of tight defender oxide film on the surface. When it gets damaged, this thin, invisible layer is reformed to maintain a surface fully resistant to corrosive attacks on the natural environment and seawater. The oxide is too resistant that titanium components still look new after several years of service.
